Hyde Park Sports Ground

The Parish Council, after a very protracted period of negotiation, acquired the land allocated for sports pitches adjacent to the Eastern Relief Road between the Canal roundabout and the Hardys Road roundabout from Developers.

Since acquisition of the land work has taken place to install the following:

  • Groundworks including drainage and seeding of pitches.
  • Provision of a dog walking area.
  • Installation of cricket square including an artificial cricket square.
  • Installation of three lane enclosed cricket nets.
  • Marking of rugby pitch
  • Installation of flood lighting
  • Pump track installation.

The Pump Track was officially opened on 27th May 2026.

Updated site plan

Work to install a car park, rugby posts and rugby pitch perimeter fencing at the Sports Ground will take place in June / July 2026.

Fundraising efforts are underway to enable the construction of the pavilion.

The Sports Ground will be officially opened in August 2026, following which the facilities will be available for the community to book and use, for free, outside of their use by Taunton Rugby Club and West Monkton Cricket Club.

Terms and conditions of use and a link to book the facilities will be published shortly.

A Sports Pitch Committee has been established to oversee the delivery of the Sports Ground. Membership of the Committee includes Parish Councillors and representatives of Taunton Rugby Club and West Monkton Cricket Club. The Committee Meeting papers are available here.
